Here is the first of a series of posts showcasing some recently completed work.
My client, Polly Noakes RSHom, required a corporate branding / logo design for her Homeopathy practice.
Polly already had business cards and leaflets produced, but felt these were not corporate enough in style or design. Different fonts and colours had been applied to both items and had no consistency.
Polly was very aware of the need to be able to promote her practice by having in place a professional looking image and identity that truly reflected the values of her practice to both existing and potential new clients. As part of the Academic Faculty of the School of Homeopathy, Polly regularly mentors students. As these student are in the process of qualifying to become registered Homeopaths themselves, she continually stress’s the importance of starting any new practice with a professional looking image that is reflected across all forms of promotional material from basic stationery items to a functional website. It may seem daunting at first to hire the services of a professional designer, and the potential associated costs, but Polly understands that this can be an important investment in the future of your business, and to have that edge over your competitors is most important, as well as showing to your existing and new clients you have a professional approach to how you practice.
With this in mind Polly came to me to create a branded image for her and her practice. A good design brief is something that is vital to any design project, and not always forthcoming from clients. As Polly has also been an illustrator of children’s books, she had a good understanding of the creative process involved, and as such had a good idea as to what she required. The initial brief from Polly was for the design of the logo to be appealing across all age groups, to be modern in approach but not too ‘now’ that it would easily become outdated, and to be clean and crisp. This short but precise brief definitely helped the creative process, but otherwise I was given pretty much free rein creatively. After the presentation of alternative designs the final chosen design successfully incorporated all of Polly’s specifications with the use of natural and earthy colours that should stand the test of time. Century Gothic was the chosen font used in regular,light,bold and italic.
The next part of the brief was to design a corporate Brochure / Leaflet. It was decided that a 6 page DL Leaflet would best suit Polly’s needs, and by using this format we managed to incorporate the editorial copy Polly supplied with the addition of imagery that complimented the corporate colours of the new logo. Using this sized format also benefits Polly in being able to mail the leaflets in a standard DL envelope for marketing purposes, and to use a standard DL counter unit to display the leaflets throughout her practice’s. As the logo is based on using only two colours, tints have been used to further enhance the design and layout. I have also sourced and managed the print for Polly for all the items produced. The Leaflets have been printed 4 colour process on a 170gsm Satimat Silk FSC mixed credit, with seal throughout. Stationery items are printed 2 spot PMS colours with tints, on Advocate Smooth Extreme White.
Finally an update to Polly’s website was needed to bring all items up to date using the new corporate image, and in line with the initial brief, the site has been kept crisp and clean in its approach. An eleven pages to view site has now been designed with links to associated organisations and email addresses as the example below.
